Patricia B Jacobs, age 70, of Pittsburgh, PA formerly of Lake Charles, LA.  Beloved wife of Richard A Jacobs Jr. Born on January 10, 1947 in Lafayette, IN.  She is the daughter of the late Thorogood T. Broun Jr.  Loving mother of Jennifer L. Fowler and Bethany A. Wolf.  Sister of Thorogood T. Broun III and Robert C. Broun.  Grandmother of Joshua W. Fowler, Katherine T. Fowler, and Luke Fowler.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Pat Jacobs was a true Renaissance woman with interests ranging from genealogy research and bird watching, to painting, photography and jewelry making, to camping, running and dressage horseback riding. She had several post-university graduate degrees culminating with a PhD in chemistry from University of Pittsburgh. She worked for Bayer for more than 20 years, inventing improved polymers for industrial and automotive coatings, accumulating more than a dozen patents along the way.

Pat had a heart for mission work and spent many years working with immigrant children in South Hills Interfaith Movement’s after school tutoring program. She was an active member of the Hekima Place governing board overseeing the operation of a home for girls near Nairobi, Kenya. She made several trips to Africa to help with operations including a multi-month stay as Acting Director of the home while the Founding Director recovered in the US from automobile injuries suffered in Kenya. Pat was also active in Bower Hill Community Church in Mt. Lebanon, where she chaired several church committees and made several trips to Haiti to help install water purification systems.

Pat loved to travel and the more adventurous the better. She accompanied Rick on trips to Mt. Kilimanjaro (to the top), Mt. Everest basecamp (on the Chinese side), the palace of the Dalai Lama in Tibet, Antarctica, Macchu Pichu, the Amazon, Patagonia, New Zealand and many other places. She used her skills as a photographer and a journalist to publish story books for many of these adventures. She always had stories to entertain her children, grandchildren and many friends.

We will miss her bright eyes and winning smile, her energy and enthusiasm for life and her unwavering love for her family and friends.

Friends and Family are welcome for a memorial service on December 9, 2017 at 3:30 pm. At Bower Hill Community Church at 70 Moffett Street, Mt. Lebanon, PA 15243. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Cremation & Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Rd., McMurray, PA 15317, 724-260-5546.

Dear Rick, Jennifer, Bethany, and all of Pat's loving family, I hold you in my heart as you bear your deep loss. Strong, smart and purposeful, Pat created a legacy for so many to remember and to experience in benefits that cannot be measured. Very many years ago on one of the Bower Hill women's retreat, I remember Pat sharing pictures of and reverence for alpine meadows. I, too, know their beauty and now picture Pat in an alpine meadow, serene and knowing. Her part in making all of you who you are is cause for celebration. Your happy tears and sad tears are tributes a truly remarkable woman who left too soon. Sincerely, Judy Delestienne

Dear Rick and all of Pat’s loving family, My prayers are with you. May the ache in your heart be gently filled with the peace of your wonderful memories and her generous love. I came to know Pat through Hekima and she was a role model, mentor and friend to me. In every conversation, she left me a better person through an act of kindness, courage, integrity, or a genuine discussion of ideas. She always put her gift of intelligence to its highest use and Renaissance women she was! However, the biggest honor I can offer is she was always a true Christian in her actions; especially the little ones that normally go by unnoticed, but which make up a life. I delight in knowing Pat is having a good run with Jesus now on the most beautiful of trails. Go Bless, Laura Ohlund
