Mack F. Wampler

Mack F. Wampler, 84, of Volant, PA passed away after a lingering illness on July 2, 2021 at Corner View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsburgh, PA. He was was born in Harrisonburg, VA on September 5, 1936 to the late Jacob and Ruth Wampler.

Mack graduated from Middle River High School in Weyers Cave, VA and served in the United States Air Force.  He was married to Barbara Zaylskie from June 13, 1958 until her death on October 3, 2000. He is survived by their children, Mack (Linda) Wampler, Jr. “Fred” of Grove City, PA, Barbara Susan “Susi” Foran of Ashland, VA;  grandchildren, Doug Kerr and Barbie Kerr also of Ashland; a sister, Phyllis Neff of Washington, PA;  great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

On March 8, 2002 he married Norma Mercier, who survives him.  He is also survived by a step-son, Shane (Diane) Mercier of Meadville, PA and their daughter McKenna Mercier.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dallas Wampler; a niece, Janeen Neff; a step daughter, Shannon Whitman and her son, Darrin Whitman.

Mack spent most of his career as a newspaper reporter and editor in Michigan, Indiana, South Carolina and Pennsylvania.  He and his first wife, Barbara, founded and published “The Outdoor News,”  a monthly publication for sportsmen.  Mack loved music. He sang with his family, in church choirs, and in ACTS community choir in Slippery Rock and Butler.  He passed along his love of music, animals, and the outdoors to many relatives and descendants.  He was an active member of Harmony United Methodist Church of Zelienople, PA.

A memorial service will be private.
