Ethel M. Flaherty

Ethel M. Flaherty, 90, of Wexford passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022. Predeceased by her parents Louis and Susan Devay; beloved wife of the late Patrick “Bud” Flaherty; loving mother of Patrick (Wendy), Lisa (Patrick), and Susan (Paul); cherished grandmother of Megan, Patrick, Michael, Katie, Nicole, Aoife, and Christian Patrick.

E or Coco, as some called her, changed many people’s lives both within and outside of her family through her kindness and compassion to others. She was known for her sense of humor and brightened any room she entered. A witty, gregarious, and charming person who enjoyed life and prayed for the happiness and success of everyone.

Ethel’s family was her whole life. She adored and loved them unconditionally and with dedication. She was also a devoted friend to many. Ethel was the “mom of the neighborhood” when her children were growing up and never turned a child away without offering a meal. She had a deep understanding of life and people and always saw the positive in everything.

Ethel was a volunteer for many organizations from the Girl Scouts to a longtime volunteer at the Wexford House facility. She loved working, and later when retired, was constantly busy with her grandchildren and being active around the house.

Though her earthly light has ended, her devotion, kind works, and laughter will live on and shine through all who knew and loved her. She was one of a kind and will be dearly missed. She is simply unforgettable to those who knew her.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the spring at St. Alexis Church in Wexford followed by a private interment at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA.  A separate event will be held in Ellicott City, Maryland.
