John A. Michalovicz, age 73 of Lawrence PA formerly of Glassport, PA passed away on March 29, 2022. Born on July 22, 1948, he was the son of the late Laura and Andrew Michalovicz. Beloved husband of Kathleen Wargo Michalovicz for 53 years. Loving father of Tara Michalovicz Puskas (Damon Zappa) and Dr. Ryan Michalovicz (Marie Shriver). Cherished grandfather of Aidan and Delaney Puskas. Loving brother of Andrew (Rosemary) Michalovicz, David (Linda) Michalovicz and Maryann Michalovicz (Steve) Grippi. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joey Michalovicz.
While attending Penn State University in State College, John joined the Navy Reserves in 1967 and attended weekly training sessions in Altoona. His unit was upgraded to active duty in 1969 and was deployed to Vietnam where he was stationed at the Tan Am Airbase, and finally served on the Navy Riverine Forces. Upon discharge, John continued with the Navy reserves until 1974 and then attended Duquesne University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on Business Commerce in 1973. During his career, he was a business owner, worked for Prudential Insurance and retired from The Port Authority of Allegheny County. John loved spending weeks vacationing at the Atlantic Beaches, frequently traveling to Aruba and Great Britain. His family will best remember him as a car enthusiast under the hood.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday, April 14, 2022 from 11 AM – 1 PM at Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, (724) 260-5546. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM at the funeral home followed by interment at 2:30 PM at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation in honor of his mother.

Kathy, I just happened to come across John's obituary & wanted to express my condenses. This is ur old time neighbor across the fence in Glassport Sherie, Erica's Mom! I am so sorry to hear about John! Wow, that was such a long time ago but I have fond memories of u both, esp ur talks hanging out by ur fence! I saw pics of Tara & Dr. Ryan...awesome! I followed in ur footsteps after getting out of that terrible situation I was in & became a RN & worked Critical Care for 30yrs. Recently retired & saw u on FB & just had 2 say hi & tell u I was so glad u guys were my neighbors! Great memories of putting pool in, Erica playing with Ryan & Tara and just talking.Take Care ❤! Kathy, So sorry to here of John's passing. I just saw this obit on the internet. As you remember John and I (Bill Pietsch) shared an apartment on 600 West College Ave. (Room 301) in 1967-68. I remember everything noted in his obit about going to Altoona in the Navy Reserves. He had I do believe at that time a 57 Chevy. If you remember my wife Kathy and I visited you two in 1973 when we lived in Zelienople. I knew you guys were living somewhere I think near South Hills Village but never could get in touch.
