Ann Marie Steliotes, age 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 16, 2024. Born in 1928 to Italian immigrants Thomas and Anna Dattilo, she grew up in Dormont, PA. When her father passed away at a young age, her older brother, the late Dr. James Dattilo helped raise her. She graduated from Chatham College with a degree in Speech Therapy. She continued her master’s education at both the University of Wisconsin and Stanford University. She spent years teaching Speech to underprivileged children in Pittsburgh’s inner city as well as developing and starring in her own children’s program called “Talking Town” for WQED. She filmed this show in a studio across the hall from Fred Rogers.
In 1957, she met and married the love of her life, Dean Steliotes, who preceded her in death, her life revolved around raising their five sons, James Steliotes of Los Angeles, CA, Mark Steliotes (Lisa) of Venetia, PA, Paul Steliotes (Anne) of Sewickley, PA, Greg Steliotes (Kim) of Pine Richland, PA, and Dr. Ted Steliotes of Ben Avon, PA.
She adored her grandchildren, Alaina (Andrew), Nicole, Emily, Caroline (Leah), Dean, Rachel (Levi), Michael and Leonidas, as well as her two great grandchildren, Walker, and Hazel Grace. She also held a very special place in her heart for her brother Jim’s seven children: Mary Ann, Jane, Thomas, James, David, Michael, and Daniel.
She was a consummate cook with a Chef Certification under Master Chef Ferdinand Metz. A devout Catholic, she would often go to mass two to three times per week attending St. Bernard Church in Mt. Lebanon or St. John Capistran Church in Upper St. Clair.
She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
A private funeral service will be announced at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. John Capistran Church, 1610 McMillen Road, Upper St. Clair, PA 15241. Arrangements entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, McMurray, PA.
