Bernard Paul Suchoza
Known simply as “Grandpa” to many, Bernard Paul Suchoza- Age 93- of McMurray, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 30th. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife for over 60 years, Patricia. He was the strong and loving father of Karen (Henry) Chesko, Kathy (Doug) Wolfe, Kim (Steve) Burdette, Kevin (Yolanda) Suchoza, Kenny (Tammy) Suchoza, Karl (Jackie) Suchoza, and Krista (Bill) Kollitz. Proud grandfather of 25 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Bernie was born and raised in Homestead, PA, graduated from Homestead High School (1945), the US Merchant Marine Academy (1949) and Carnegie Tech (1966). Following his graduation from the USMMA, Bernie was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy Reserve, and retired in June of 1983 with the rank of Captain – United States Navy Reserve. Bernie spent his civilian career with Westinghouse-Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, retiring in 1994 after 42 years. Bernie was an active volunteer at St. Benedict the Abbot Church, Meals on Wheels, and the Washington City Mission. He was a consummate host and life of the party, and there was always room at the table for one more. His love for life, family and the Steelers was contagious, and his positive example of a life well lived was inspirational for all fortunate enough to have met him. Family and Friends will be received at Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care 3287 Washington Rd McMurray on Monday June 14th from 1-3pm and 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, June 15th at 9:30am at St. Benedict the Abbot Church. Interment in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Contributions may be made to Peters Township Meals on Wheels, Washington City Mission, or St. Benedict the Abbot Catholic Church.

Bernie was a great guy. I worked very close to him for many years. In fact, it was about 10 feet away! We shared an office for many years.
