Betty Jane (Riefer) Matragas, age 84 of Bethel Park has gained her heavenly wings.  Although we will all miss her, she is now reunited with her husband (Dave) and free from her cognitive memory issues that drastically changed her life on earth.

Betty is survived by her cherished son James (Sheila) Matragas and dearest daughter Debra (Earl) Zakrzewski.  She was extremely proud and blessed with 5 grandchildren (Teah (Justin), Kayla, Joshua, Shelby, & Noah), 5 great grandchildren (Julian, Josie, Briella, Jade & Brantley), and several grand-fur pups.  Betty is also survived by sister-in-laws Jonilee Matragas and Alba Harding, cousins Marilyn Clark and Joanne Yager, as well as many more cousins, nieces, and  nephews.  Betty’s family was her entire world, her passion and hobby.  She took care of several family members and was always first to help.  We are fortunate to have many treasured memories and stories to share.  Betty retired from PNC Bank and always looked forward to her Bethel Park High School class reunions as well as the monthly lunches with the girls.  Betty and Dave’s life was the true meaning of love, life, laughter and family.

We are very thankful for the amazing care Betty received during her nearly 3 years at Grandview Estates of Elizabeth.  The staff at Grandview, the staff at OSPTA home health care/hospice care, the staff at Anova Health Care System, as well as the staff who visited Grandview to administer care are simply remarkable.  We are also grateful the Senior Living Advisors (SLA) provided guidance in helping us to find Grandview for Betty’s final years.

Private arrangements are entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, McMurray, PA.  While heaven celebrates its newest angel, the family will host a celebration of Betty’s life on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.   Please email bmatragas@gmail.com if you would like to attend the celebration of life.

Betty was a loving, generous friend who dedicated her life to caring for members of her family. In days gone past, Betty spent high school days hanging out with Judy,Ellen and me. It was an honor to be her friend.

We were sorry to hear the news about Betty. Our sincere sympathy to the Matragas Family. Betty was a remarkable person always caring for the well-being of others. She provided support for her family, but also found time to help others that were in need. My wife Judy Lodge considered Betty a true-gifted friend. She will be missed. We remember Betty during the good times at the BPHS Class reunions and events and the sharing with Dave and Betty. With sympathy, Dan Ebbert and Family Cherry Hill, NJ
