Betty Lou Young

Betty Lou Young, 87, of Wexford, PA, passed away peacefully after a hard fight with a lengthy illness on April 19, 2026. Born on September 29, 1938, in Library, PA she was the daughter of the late Robert Schneider and Elizabeth Miller Smith.

Beloved mother to Dawn (Steven) Pustay, Wendy (Duncan Ridge) Essex, and Pat (Vickie) Young; Sister to Margie (Bud) Camus; Mother-in-law to Karen Young; Grandmother to Deborah (Eric) Wisniowski, Amy (Mike) Yanick, Andrew (Amanda) Pustay, Nicholas (Irem) Pustay, Daniel (Jessalyn) Pustay and Megan (Ed) Lenz; Great-grandmother to Kaia, Liam, Gabe, Elliott, Daphne, Bryson, Olivia, Trevor, Watson, Lincoln, Eddie, Luke, and Callie; Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Kenneth Young; Her son, Kenneth M. Young; And siblings Alice McMurray, Robert Schneiderlochner, Ruth Worley, and Billy Schneiderlochner.

Betty spent her life caring for others. First, as a devoted mother and homemaker then- a college student and finally-  a  dedicated teacher.  Betty believed strongly in the value of education and inspired many throughout her life. She loved sharing books and encouraging a love of learning in others. She especially cherished time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took pride in saving to support their education.

In their younger years, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and, later, spent many hours on their boat at Moraine State Park on peaceful Sunday afternoons with a bucket of chicken and the Sunday newspaper.

She was also known for her overwhelming generosity and “Grandma’s Prerogative”.   She loved a good celebration and was always the first to offer to bring a cake- usually from Dudt’s Bakery.

In her last few years she was best known as ‘feisty’ at her assisted living facility and kept everyone on their toes with witty remarks.

A visitation will be held on Sunday April 26, 2026 from 5pm-8pm at Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA, 15317. A service will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026 at 10am at the funeral home, followed by burial at Crossroads (Pine Township) Cemetery in Gibsonia, PA.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to Monarch Hospice, 2837 Leechburg Rd, Lower Burrell, PA 15068.
