Bovey Masiole Balyesele, 36, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Tanzania, died peacefully on Monday, May 1, 2023, with his wife Kathryn at his side. After battling cancer for over a year, we take great consolation knowing that Bovey has finished his race and that he is with the Lord.

Bovey was born on October 9, 1986, in Mwanza, Tanzania to Sylvester Masiole Balyesele and Anna Ediphania Mazula. He is the beloved husband of seven years to Kathryn and loving father of Ada Lulu and Mika Masiole. Brother of Irene Balyesele and Jacquiline Balyesele; Son-in-law to Thad and Avis Ritter, brother-in-law to James and Densie Ritter, Julius and Rebecca King, and loving uncle and cousin to many.

Bovey’s smile will be remembered by anyone who met him. From a young child, to first arriving in the US, his smile and personality was a light to all that met him. He started playing soccer at a young age in Tanzania and continued his career at Seton Hill University. After hanging up his soccer cleats, Bovey began training for and running marathons. As he ran through our neighborhood, he could be seen waving and smiling to all those he saw. Bovey’s legacy lives on as Ada has completed her first few races and Mika enjoys playing soccer.

Family and friends are welcome on Friday, May 5, 2023, from 4-8 pm at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 5405 Steubenville Pike, Robinson Township, PA 15136, (412) 787-1800. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 6th at 10 am at Church of the Ascension, 4729 Ellsworth Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Burial will follow at Homewood Cemetery.

On Saturday, June 24 residents of our neighborhood, Ingram Borough will host the Inaugural IngRUN 5K. All proceeds will go towards improvements at our local park. Kathryn, Ada, and Mika will be participating in memory of Bovey and we invite any others to run or cheer. https://runsignup.com/Race/PA/Pittsburgh/IngRUN5K

Sending prayers of comfort and healing to the family and friends. Bovey was a very unique and special man with a heart as huge as his smile. I enjoyed having him as a student. He will be sorely missed.
