Brian McKeever, age 55, lifelong resident of Upper St. Clair, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 after a brave fight against cancer.

The second of five boys born to the late Bill and Dottie McKeever, Brian was the loving husband of Rebecca McKeever; beloved father of Lucy, Sam, and Katie; devoted brother of David McKeever, Chris McKeever (Jill), the late Mike McKeever (Jamie), and the late Kevin McKeever (Christine); and dedicated uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Wherever he went, Brian brought an appreciation with him. From admiring the birds frequenting his backyard to identifying his favorite lyrics in the songs that grace his wealth of Spotify playlists, no moment was without significance. He fished trout streams, spent days on the beach in Sea Isle City, camped in state parks, and hiked trails with his family and dog, each time sure to leave his beloved nature the way he left the world: better than he found it.

He balanced effortlessly: between hockey with his son and coloring books with his daughters, between the Steelers and the Penguins (with the assistance of dueling TVs), and between the neighborhood kids who specifically sought him out to play a big kid and a cohort rather than a neighbor and a parent. To his extended family that became known as the “beach cousins,” he was both a role model and the creator of the golf ball game: roles of equal significance. He was his children’s idol, his wife’s best friend, and, to friends made from elementary school through adulthood, a lifelong ally.

His optimism and unwavering strength grounded his loved ones through their hardest times. He was uncommonly thoughtful, supremely funny, and unflinchingly good. He will be profoundly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Brian’s life will take place on Saturday, November 13. Details to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, so that fathers and sons may continue fishing together.
