Clarence “Pickles” Massery

Clarence “Pickles” Massery Jr., 92, of Belle Vernon, PA passed away peacefully with family by his side on May 12, 2026. Born in 1933, he is the son of the late Clarence and Rosie Massery.
Beloved father to Dean (Patti) and Edward (Maggie) Massery; Loving Pap to Erin (Matt) Weaver, Adam Rumpler, Adelaide Massery, Myles Massery, and Oliver Massery; Great-grandfather to Penny, Violet, Eliza, Declan, and Amara; Brother-in-law to Marcy Koerber and Susan Garish.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Natalie Massery.
Clarence honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and then spent the rest of his service in Japan.
The family would also like to thank caretaker Tammy Puckey for her dedicated work and compassionate care. All arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care.

Dr. Goldstein
Pickles was a well known fixture at Bettis. I had the honor of touring his workplace while working there. I was told that his nickname comes from the specialized expertise he provided at work. I remember him as a pleasant, friendly gentleman. He was deservedly proud of his work. May he rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of working with Pickles back in the 1970's he was our production coordinator.  He was a very nice and easy going guy.  I don't think I ever saw him without a smile.

I attended a lot of meetings at the Bettis Laboratory where Pickles was typically part of a team helping to figure out how to meet some demanding schedule. Those kinds of meetings can be both boring and stressful, but his ever-present smile helped the process.
