Daniel E. Gill, age 77, of Canonsburg, PA, passed away on July 20, 2024.
Beloved husband of Leslie D. Gill.
Born on September 1, 1946, in Celina, Ohio. Son of the late Homer R. and Thelma A. Berlekamp Gill
Survived by son, Patrick Gill and his wife Robin, daughter Maureen Gill, grandchildren Chloe and Lennon Gill, and brother, Robert Gill, as well as an abundant number of nieces and nephews.
Dan enlisted in the US Navy in 1966, serving on the USS Sandoval (LPA-194) until enrolling at Purdue University where he earned both a BSME and MSME.
While at Purdue, Dan met Leslie whom he married on June 21, 1975, in Madison, IN.
An engineer through and through, he went from naval architect for the DOD to “hot parts” of jet engines (GE Aircraft Engines) to diesel engines at Cummins Engine (where he received a patent for ceramic tipped pivot rod and its manufacture, and a shared patent for ceramic ball and socket joint) and thence to ANSYS, retiring in 2012.
Dan was an avid reader. He loved classic movies, classic music and musicals, and the Green Bay Packers. He had a kind soul that made everyone he came in contact with just a little brighter. He will be dearly missed and always loved.
Interment with full military honors will take place on September 10, 2024 at 10AM at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care.
