Daniel Frederick Penrod

Daniel Frederick Penrod, 77, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Dan was born on May 9,1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Daniel and Jeanne Penrod. He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1967 and went on to complete his PhD in Clinical Psychology at Bowling Green State University. Dr. Penrod spent 35 years as a clinical psychologist working at Bay Pines VA Medical Center, where he built a distinguished and respected career.  Dan was previously married to Patricia Kunish, with whom he shared many years and raised his two children, Dan and Sarah.

In his retirement years, Dan returned to Pittsburgh and absolutely loved the Steel City, becoming an enthusiastic ambassador whose passion was impossible to miss. Whether on the golf course, in the garden, or through his steadfast commitment to his local community, he embodied a life of balancing personal passion with purposeful generosity.  With his beloved fiancée, he welcomed the art of exploration, transforming the world’s destinations into chapters of their shared story. Those who knew Dan will remember his quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, and his gift for telling stories that could make anyone laugh. He was a friend to all and a stranger to none, embracing everyone he met with open arms. Dan found genuine joy in building connections and never missed an opportunity to make a new friend.  He took great pride in being a father and grandfather.

Dan is survived by those closest to his heart: his fiancée, Peggy Westbrook; his daughter, Sarah Penrod; his son Dan Penrod and wife Lissette Penrod; and his grandchildren, Daniel and Lucia. He is also cherished by his three sisters: Eloise Cooper, Patti Saxton, and Lisa Plant. He will be remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

In accordance with Dan’s wishes, services will be private. For those who wish to celebrate and honor Dan’s memory, memorial donations may be made to Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and World Central Kitchen to reflect his lifelong commitment to helping others.
