David C. Szkoda

With great sadness, we announce the passing of David Christopher Szkoda on June 4, 2026, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. Throughout his illness, Dave faced every challenge with remarkable strength and determination, undergoing a craniotomy, radiation, chemotherapy, and two clinical trials. Even during the most difficult moments, he remained hopeful and focused on the people he loved, drawing strength from his family, friends, and the many who supported him throughout his journey.

Born on February 17, 1974, in Erie, Pennsylvania, David lived a life marked by kindness, humor, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. As the son of Margaret Miller and Chester Szkoda, he carried the values of family, hard work, and compassion throughout his life. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Penn State Behrend and later a master’s degree from Robert Morris University, reflecting his lifelong commitment to learning and growth.

That dedication to learning and personal growth carried into a successful career as a Senior Software Engineer with Cotiviti, where he was respected for his expertise, commitment, and innovative spirit. He took great pride in solving complex challenges while mentoring and supporting others, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.

Beyond his professional achievements, David embraced life with enthusiasm and a deep appreciation for the people and interests that brought him joy. He was passionate about the Pittsburgh Steelers, fantasy football, and travel. Whether cheering on his favorite team, managing his fantasy football roster, or exploring new destinations, he brought energy and joy to every experience. Those who knew David will remember his quick wit, infectious humor, and genuine kindness.

Above all, David’s greatest devotion was to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Darra Tolle; his brother, Miles Szkoda (Ashley); his nephew, Miles, Jr.; and his faithful dogs, Buddy and Henley, who were treasured members of his family. He is also survived by many aunts and cousins.

David’s impact on those around him will endure for years to come. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, laughter, strength and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Friends and family will gather on June 13, 2026, at Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, 5405 Steubenville Pike, Robinson Township, PA 15136, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a short service at 12:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Erie Humane Society in Dave’s name.

As we honor David’s life, those who knew him are encouraged to celebrate their memories of him and carry forward the kindness, loyalty, and compassion that defined him.
