David D. Sisk

David D. Sisk of Moon Township, loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, loyal servant of God, and military service veteran, was welcomed into heaven on May 1, 2021 at the age of 78 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Ethelda Sisk, and brother, Francis G. Sisk. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 49 years, Diane, children Erin (Jay) Sisk Drury, David P. (Pamela) Sisk, and Robin Sisk, grandchildren Elizabeth Drury and James Drury, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Dave was born on April 12, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA and grew up in East Liberty.

After graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1960, he attended Duquesne University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education and a Master’s in Mathematics.

Immediately following his time at Duquesne, Dave enlisted in the United States Air Force with a reserved officer commission and served five and a half years in active military service. He served one tour of duty in Vietnam from June 1967 through February 1968, where he earned a Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service for serving in combat during the Tet Offensive. Dave received a field promotion to First Lieutenant for his gallant services during the Tet Offensive and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1969 with the rank of Captain.

In the two years following his military service, he met his beautiful wife, Diane, and began his distinguished career with the National Weather Service at the National Climatic Center in Asheville, NC. His career was highlighted by receiving the NOAA Administrator’s Award for outstanding leadership in developing an effective cooperative federal, state, and local government flash flood warning service. He retired in 2004 after many years as a lead forecaster in Pittsburgh.

Dave enjoyed reading, model trains, classic TV/film, sports, and genealogical research.  Among one of his proudest personal accomplishments was tracing his Irish family history and obtaining dual nationality with the United States and the Republic of Ireland. He was also a published author in the Irish Roots magazine.

Besides honorably and faithfully serving his country both at home and abroad, his life was most defined by his love and devotion to his family. His generosity and loyalty to his family and close friends will be remembered by all.

Family and friends welcome on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 from 1:00-3:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care 5405 Steubenville Pike Robinson Township, PA 15136.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at 1:00pm at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Coraopolis where he was a long-time member of the parish.

Internment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Moon Township, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 320 Bismarck Drive Pittsburgh, PA 15205.
