David John Woistman
After a long and courageous battle for his health, on March 25, 2020 David John Woistman departed from this world to join his beloved parents, Lou and Agnes in Heaven. David is survived by his son Staff Sergeant David Jesse (and his wife Victoria) of Texas. David is also survived by his sister Lou Ann Reid of Georgia and his brother Louis (and his wife Anne) of Pittsburgh.
Born in 1951, David attended St Matthews Grade School in the South Side of Pittsburgh and graduated from Carrick High School in 1969. After High School, David enlisted in the Army in December 1970, and was assigned to Fort Knox in the Tank Division as an Armor Crewman 11E10. He was then stationed in Bad Nauheim, Germany from 1971 through 1973, and during his tenure earned the National Defense Service Medal and Marksman Pistol Badge.
David’s early career in Security presented the opportunity to become a Federal Corrections Officer in Tallahassee, FL and Ashland, KY. Later, he moved from the Federal to the State level and came back home to Pittsburgh as a Pennsylvania State Corrections Officer, assigned to SCI Greene and also Western Penitentiary, from which he retired in December 2004.
David had a lifelong love of motorcycles, and was in his glory while telling stories of all his adventures from the 1970’s and 1980’s. He was truly a free spirit and will be missed by all those who knew him.
With respect to the current COVID 19 restrictions, funeral arrangements will be kept private at this time. At some point in the future, a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be arranged in his honor. Details will be provided through his network of family and friends at that time.
If you desire, David’s preference would be to support any Veterans Organizations in the area, including the Light of Life Mission, 913 Western Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15233, which is very active in the support of Homeless Veterans.
Please view and sign the family’s online guestbook at pittsburghcremation.com.
