David Michael Johns was born on July 14, 1941 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. While his life on this earth ended on May 21, 2026, we know the moment after he took his last breath here, he opened his eyes in his eternal home, with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom he’s known and trusted for so long.

David grew up in Brentwood and was the oldest of three to Elsie and David Johns. He graduated from Youngstown State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He had an exemplary career selling for Xerox Corporation. He was part owner of Namsco Plastics, and eventually sold his share to retire and try his hand in other endeavors. He worked hard enough to have a comfortable life and provide everything we could ever need, as well as a lot of things we wanted. But he never cared to work too hard, because he enjoyed life, and he wanted nothing more than for us to enjoy life too. I remember him asking me, back when I was in high school, if I knew what I wanted to study in college and ultimately do with my life. When I said I had no idea, he simply said, “it’s ok, you’ll figure it out, just as long as you’re happy.” He was a husband to my mom, Robyn, for almost 50 years, and he was a wonderful father not just to my brother and me but to so many in our family. He liked taking us all for ice cream in his little red Ferrari. He liked a cold beer with his buddies after some intense handball matches. He liked working on cars, and appreciated their design and machinery. He was fond of afternoon naps. He was sweet and funny and oh so charming.

He spent his last hours lying comfortably in his living room. A spring breeze was blowing gently from the open porch door while my cousin, who loved him so dearly and looked up to him like a father, was reading to him. He leaves behind his wife Robyn, his daughter Jessica, his son David, his brother Richard, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss his smile and his “Yehah!!” laugh, his convivial spirit, and his strong handshake.
