It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David W. Free, 70, of Arona, Pennsylvania, who departed this life on July 18, 2026, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. David was born on July 17, 1956, in Penn, Pennsylvania, to the late Donald J. and Alfreda “Fritzi” (Andraska) Free. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Linda (Free) Walsh of Magnolia, Arkansas, and his nephews, Lucas and Justin Petrill.
David was a 1974 graduate of Hempfield High School and furthered his education at Westmoreland County Community College, graduating in 1982. He dedicated over 30 years of his career as an Engineering Technician at Philips Respironics, Inc. in Murrysville, PA.
David was a remarkably talented man who loved home remodeling, car repair, and the challenge of fixing the impossible. He had a massive heart, a soft spot for animals, and a reputation for never turning away anyone who needed a helping hand. David enjoyed spending time with his family, especially while cheering on the Steelers. He was also a loyal Pittsburgh Pirates fan who faithfully watched every game on TV.
David is survived by his loving son, Erik and his former wife Pauline. He is also survived by his siblings: Diana (Mike) White, Cynthia (Jerry) Petrill, Kristopher (Cindy) Free, Veronica Furr, Melanie (Jim) Reuss, Barbara Hoak, Michele (Christina) Free, and April (Ted) Kopas, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.
