Dorothy Dillemuth

Mrs. Dorothy Dillemuth, a longtime resident of Grand Island, New York passed away on August 2, 2026 having reached the age of 99 years.
Dorothy was born in Buffalo, New York in April 1927 and was the oldest of three daughters by Mr. Harry Waltman and Mrs. Ivy Mashford-Waltman. One sister, Mrs. Laurel Moher had previously passed away but she is survived by her youngest sister, Dawn Bukowski.
Dorothy was baptized in Niagara Falls on May 11th, 1930. For much of her early life, she lived on Grand Island and was a charter member of St Timothy’s Lutheran church. She was also a member of Faith Chapter #722 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Dorothy became a member of the Grand Island School District in 1953 and subsequently served as the head of the guidance department for 17 years. In 1979, she was appointed interim superintendent of the Grand Island School district to manage affairs during what had become a tumultuous period. After successfully reorienting the district, Dorothy was appointed superintendent of the Green School District near Binghamton, New York. Later, she accepted superintendent positions in Pennsylvania, earning a reputation as a trouble shooter who could restore both fiscal and academic discipline in troubled districts. Her last posting was to the Houston School District.
For her retirement hobby, Dorothy earned an advanced Degree in Taxation and performed volunteer work doing taxes for elderly and lower income people. She was known for her unofficial ministry of sending birthday cards to “shut-ins” and others who would not otherwise receive any type of greeting. Lastly, she was a prolific donator to numerous charities and a master of self-discipline in that she never missed an appointment with her favorite hair dresser.
Dorothy is survived by her long-time partner, Allan Junker. She was previously married to Irwin Dillemuth (deceased) and is survived by three children and in-laws; Charles Dillemuth & Betty Barnett, Mike & Lois Dillemuth, Ivy & Charles Silviera. She also has two grandsons; Mark and Matthew Perrault.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday, August 4th at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in McMurray. Dorothy will later be interned in Buffalo New York.
