Dorothy “Dot” Krol, 91, of Monongahela, passed away peacefully at home on December 17, 2025, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.
Dorothy was born on June 17, 1934, in McKeesport to Michael and Anna Gazdich. She was the youngest of eight children, with four sisters and three brothers. From an early age, Dorothy had a passion for helping others, which led her to become a nurse’s aide—a role that reflected her caring nature and compassion for those around her.
Dorothy married the love of her life, Walter Kolodziej, and together they welcomed two sons, Kenneth and Steve. When Walter passed away while their boys were still young, Dorothy faced life’s greatest challenge with remarkable strength and courage. As a single mother, she worked tirelessly, sacrificing endlessly to provide for her sons, never once wavering in her love or devotion. Her extraordinary work ethic and resilience were born during this time and remained with her throughout her life.
Later in life, Dorothy found love again with Tony Krol, and the two shared many happy years together in Naples, Florida. After Tony’s passing, Dorothy returned to Pennsylvania, choosing to live next door to her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren—right where her heart belonged. There, she spent her days surrounded by family, laughter, and the comfort of being close to those she loved most.
She is survived by her son Kenneth Kolodziej and daughter-in-law Lori Kolodziej; grandchildren Amber Kolodziej, Kristy Kolodziej, and Kari Pascarella; and many loved family members who will forever hold her memory close. Although Dorothy loved her entire family beyond measure, nothing brought her more joy or pride than being “Grammy.” Her great-grandchildren—Jayden, Cole, Payton, Nico, and Rocco—were the light of her life, filling her heart with endless love, purpose, and happiness. Every moment spent with them was her greatest treasure.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her beloved son, Steve Kolodziej, and her dear grandson, Stevie Kolodziej, losses she carried with her every day and missed beyond words. She is also reunited with her brothers and sisters who passed before her.
Dorothy lived a life rooted in family, compassion, and selflessness. She possessed a gentle heart, a giving spirit, and a quiet strength that carried her through every season of life. Her home was always a place of warmth, love, and welcome to all who entered. Dorothy will be remembered for the love she gave so freely and the strength she modeled so gracefully. The legacy she leaves behind lives on through future generations and in the deep bonds of love that will forever hold her family together. She will be missed more than words can express.
All arrangements were private and entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care.
