E. William Matthews

E. William Matthews, 73, of Gibsonia, formerly of Allison Park and raised in Munhall, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on August 16, 1952, in Pittsburgh.

He was the beloved son of the late Edward and Virginia Matthews.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Diane (Agardy) Matthews; his cherished sons, Brad William (Alexis) Matthews of Gibsonia and Nicholas Edward Matthews of Miami, Florida; and his adored grandchildren, Blake William Matthews and Libby Marie Matthews, who knew him as “Pap.” He is also survived by his brothers, Gregory (Joanne) Matthews of Lexington, Kentucky, Gary (Maureen) Matthews of Munhall, Pennsylvania, and his best friend of over 70 years, James Stewart Listak of the Woodlands, Texas, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bill attended Thiel College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1974. He later received his MBA from Robert Morris University in 1984. He was a Certified Public Accountant and a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Bill was the President and Founder of EWM Consulting, Inc. Most recently, he served as the Executive Director of the Ellwood City Community Health Foundation and as CEO/CFO of ECH Legacy, Inc. (Ellwood City Hospital).

Bill dedicated his career to healthcare, beginning his career with 15 years at Montefiore Hospital, followed by three years at Harmarville Rehabilitation Center, six years at Suburban General Hospital, and three years at UPMC.

A proud alumnus of Thiel College and a member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, Bill remained actively involved with the college throughout his life. He served on the Alumni Association Board of Directors and numerous committees. In 2025, he was honored with the Service to Thiel Award in recognition of his many contributions to the university and its community.

Bill was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where he chaired the finance committee for many years.

An Eagle Scout, Bill maintained a lifelong commitment to the Boy Scouts of America. He served on the leadership committee of Troop 17 in Allison Park and was an influential mentor to generations of young Scouts. He was also deeply involved in youth sports, coaching Hampton Soccer and Baseball, and supporting Hampton Wrestling, including overseeing the Hampton Dog Duals for more than ten years.

Above all, Bill treasured his family and friends, forming lifelong bonds with all who knew him. He and Diane shared more than 51 years of marriage. He was a devoted father to his twins and took great pride in their activities and accomplishments. Bill enjoyed traveling the world with his wife and best friends, Jim and Karen Listak. He was passionate about Pittsburgh sports, both collegiate and professional, and was an avid golfer, especially in his retirement years.

Family and friends will be received at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1965 Ferguson Road, Allison Park, PA 15101, on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Saturday, May 2, 2026 beginning at 9:00 a.m.  A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
