Eleanor L. Hixenbaugh

Eleanor L. Hixenbaugh, 97, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026 at Friendship Village. Born on April 2, 1928 in Monongahela, she is the daughter of the late David W. Nelson and Nelle Howe Nelson.

She was a long-time resident of Connellsville before moving to Friendship Village of South Hills, Pittsburgh in 2017.  Prior to her retirement she worked 22 years for the Pennsylvania Job Service. She was an active member of the Connellsville Presbyterian Church where she served as ruling elder and deacon and was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School class.  She was a 60-year member of the Order of Eastern Star in Monongahela.

She is survived by her daughter Diane Michalec and husband John of Mt. Lebanon, grandsons Evan Michalec, Bradley Hixenbaugh and his mother Mary Hixenbaugh and daughter-in-law Stacey Hixenbaugh.  Eleanor is predeceased by her beloved husband Louis C. Hixenbaugh, brother David W. Nelson Jr. and son David W. Hixenbaugh.

Eleanor was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She always put everyone else’s needs before her own and loved helping others.  She was dedicated to her faith and church and being part of the ‘Apple Dumpling Gang’.  She loved the beach and her visits to Sanibel Island with her family.

Eleanor’s legacy is one of kindness, dedication to her family and enduring love.  The family is grateful to the friends, family and caregivers who provided support and patience throughout her final journey.

A private family service will be held, as per Eleanor’s wishes.  Donations in her memory can be made to the Connellsville Presbyterian Church: 711 South Pittsburgh St. Connellsville, PA 15425.

With a heavy heart, I extend my deepest sympathies to the extraordinary family she was a cherished part of. Eleanor’s absence will leave an indelible void, as she was such a fun loving person.
