Ferl Edwin Harmon of Upper St. Clair Township died on April 24, 2022, in hospice care at St. Clair Memorial Hospital, at age 90. Beloved husband of Margaret Louise Pringle Harmon, father of Margaret Paige Harmon (Paul) Salera of Upper St. Clair, Wynn Harmon of New York, and Douglas Pringle (Elizabeth) Harmon of Connecticut. He was the grandfather of Matthew Stephen (Amy) Salera, Christopher Paul (Katelyn McCombs) Salera, Grace Margaret Harmon, Charlotte Paige Harmon, and Will Henry Harmon. He was preceded in death by his parents Ferl and Mildred Harmon and his sister June Harmon Bish. He is survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, and his brother-in-law, Robert George (Carol) Pringle of Florida
Ed was born on May 24, 1931, and graduated in 1949 from Mt. Lebanon High School where he played varsity baseball. He graduated in 1954 from Grove City College where he was a member of the Pan Sophic fraternity and played varsity soccer. He was a Lt. in the US Air Force at Lajes Field in the Azores, Portugal, from 1954 to 1957.
Ed followed in his father’s footsteps as a prolific homebuilder, spending most of his career with Ryan Homes before starting his own home contracting business. Ed enjoyed spending time with family, baseball, camping, golfing, and soccer. At St. Clair Country Club Ed enjoyed golfing and playing paddle tennis. He was affectionately dubbed “The Ironman” by his grandsons for his perfect attendance at their Upper St. Clair High School golf matches. He was a frequent volunteer, past president, Paul Harris Fellow and dedicated member of the Upper St. Clair-Bethel Park morning Rotary Club. For many years he was involved with Westminster Presbyterian Church before joining Shadyside Presbyterian Church and serving as an usher there.
Burial arrangements are being handled by Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care of McMurray and will take place at a later date at The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
