On Thursday, January 25, 2022, Frank “Harp” Sommer passed away peacefully in his sleep.  He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Evelyn (Grohregin), son Christopher and daughter, Nancy Sommer Pricher Markland (Mike).  Harp had twin granddaughters, Ellen Sommer and Carly Sommer Cook (Drew), one great grandchild, Emmitt Cook, and five step  great-grandchildren.

Harp was a true patriot and an avid outdoorsman.  He loved to hunt and fish.  He was a great wildlife educator to all who knew him.  His daily winter walks through Chatham Village and the surrounding wooded area provided him with plenty of game sightings and tracks.  Summers he spent at “A Sommer Place” on the Allegheny River in Kennerdell, Pa.  were among his favorite times.  Fishing was his passion, and boy, he was good at it!

A man so talented and capable in so many ways, mechanical, automotive, etc., he could fix or find a way around anything.  Funny, friendly, creative and kind he was always there for everyone.  He was everyone’s “Buddy”.

Harp had a wonderful life with a loving wife and great family (everyone’s dream) and he got to live it.  He will be forever missed by so many but never forgotten by any. There will be no memorial at this time.

If someone should ask for me,

Tell ‘em camp is where I’ll be.

I’ve finished all my chores

Now I’ll fish on the Allegheny shore.

The view is grand and the fishin’s  great,

But I yearn for you, as I wait.

I’ll save a spot on the river’s bend,

For all those I call family and friend.

But for now, head to the Allegheny

And make a cast in my memory

To all the good times there you had

With me, your husband, friend, grandpa …your Dad

And if the fish no longer bite

Or seem no longer worth the fight

Cause it is me that you are missin’

Don’t worry, be happy, I’ve gone fishin”
