Genevieve Lane
December 6, 1943 – February 9, 2026
Genevieve Lane, fondly known as Mae and later Genny, age 82 of Pittsburgh, PA departed this earthly place to be with our Lord, February 9, 2026.
Genevieve was born December 6, 1943, to Calvester and Sarah McWhite in Florence, South Carolina.
Calvester and Sarah moved their family to Pittsburgh, PA when Genevieve was a young girl. She attended Gladstone school in Hazelwood where she lived most of her childhood. Genevieve later married Willie Lane in 1962 and resided in White Plains, New York for some time before relocating back to Pittsburgh, PA. Genevieve, a hard working woman often doing days’ work to make ends meet. She later obtained her GED and attended Connelley Trade School. From there she made a career as a Typist at Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company for over 20 years, still working parttime jobs to care for herself and family. Before retiring she helped with her mother’s personal care home in Braddock, PA and ended her working life at Squirrel Hill Manor. She loved road trips, dining out and having a good time amongst family and friends. She cherished McWhite Family Reunions and never missed one.
When you think of Genevieve, think family. Family was the core of her being, from a young child she learned to cook, clean and care for her family. She was a make it happen woman. Rough talking, slick tongue, drink in one hand and a catcher’s mitt in the other, she had your back. Genevieve was a socialite and often made life look easy. It wasn’t easy, she was just resilient through it all. She often said, “Don’t you cry until you see me cry.” She is remembered for her caring heart and resilience and if you knew her, then you know that.
Genevieve was proceeded in death by her parents Calvester and Sarah McWhite, her husband Willie Lane, brothers, Calvester McWhite, Jr., and Edward McWhite and daughter, Delcara McWhite Wise. Genevieve leaves to cherish her memory her significant other, Charles Smith, Sr, daughters, Barbara Nadine Lane and Jimmese Ebony Taylor Lane, siblings, Vernice Collins, Larry McWhite, Keith McWhite and Kevin McWhite, grandchildren, Shina Allen, Shannel Smith, Karell Lane, Sr., Tene’ Lane, James Taylor-Lane and Jadarius Taylor-Smith. Great-grandchildren, Raymel Addison, Jr., Shantel Addison, Shayla Addison, Caleb Vaughan, Allanah Hudson-Lane, Karell Lane, Jr., Isaiah Hudson-Lane, Kielle Lane and Laila Lane and great-great grandchildren Ariah Delcara Addison and Myla Renea Addison along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
