George Robert Appleby, Jr., 75 of Houston, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the Donnell House in Washington, PA following a lengthy illness.
Born April 12, 1951, in Rochester, PA, he was the son of the late George Robert Appleby, Sr. and Kathryn Elizabeth (Burkett) Appleby.
George attended Avella High School through the tenth grade and held various jobs throughout his life, including positions with All-Clad Metals, ARC Human Services, and Mac Plastics.
He had a great love for the outdoors, especially hunting with his brother Roy “Eddie” Appleby, and his stepson Erik Work.
On October 11, 1996, he married the love of his life, Paula Ann Shrek, in his parents’ home in Houston, PA. Together, they shared nearly 30 years of marriage, creating cherished memories through vacations to Myrtle Beach, small road trips, and countless moments spent with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister Judy. Surviving are his devoted wife Paula Ann Appleby; his brother Roy “Eddie” Appleby (Donna) of Avella; his sisters, Sherry Harps of Canonsburg, Linda Binotto (Andy) of Strabane, and Kathy Campbell of Washington; his brother-in-law, John Shrek of Canon City, Colorado; his sister-in-law, Valerie Check (James) of Avella; his stepsons, Erik Work (Jennie) of Ellwood City and Richard Hess (Kathy) of Wellsburg, West Virginia; six grandchildren, Jacob, Jasmine, Sara, Hunter, Brady, and Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.
George was a steady presence in the lives of those he loved, always willing to lend a hand, offer support, and share a laugh. He will be remembered for his generous heart, his willingness to help others, and the love he shared with is family and friends.
A celebration of George’s life will be held later. Arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, McMurray, PA.
