Harry E. Fontana

Harry E. Fontana, was born on May 1, 1938, in Renton PA and passed away on June 25, 2026, in Greensburg PA. He lived a long and meaningful life with devotion toward his family, his work, his faith, and the many hobbies that brought him great joy.

He was the son of the late Harry E. Fontana Sr. and Florence Fedon Fontana. He was preceded in death by his brother Eugene Fontana and sister in-law Rose Fontana.

Throughout his life he carried with him the values of hard work, humility, and perseverance that was rooted in his upbringing. Those who knew him will remember a man who met life with a quiet strength, a warm spirit, and a powerful appreciation for the people around him.

He graduated from Penn State University in 1960, where he earned a ceramic engineering degree that helped shape the course of his life and future careers. He went on to build a respected career in the glass industry by working at Corning Glass, Thatcher Glass, Jeannette Glass, and L.E. Smith Glass. Throughout his work years he developed a strong reputation for proficiency, reliability, and dedication. He approached his work with care and intelligence, and he took pride in doing each task to the best of his abilities. His contributions were valued not only for their practical importance, but also for the consistency and integrity he brought to every position he held.

Beyond his career Harry was a man of many talents. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed creating things by hand. He also had a special gift for creating wooden clocks and other various items. In addition, he loved to sing and play the saxophone for both himself and his church. These activities gave him joy in life and allowed him to express the thoughtful and creative sides of his personality. He was a kind and strong man who loved to use his skills to create meaningful and long-lasting things. He had a deep love for animals and had several different pets over the years.

Harry was a Christian and a proud member of the Alpha Ministries Church, which was an important part of his life. His faith gave him comfort and strength throughout his life and helped shape who he came to be. He was a man who led by example, and his presence was a source of reassurance to all those who loved him.

He is survived by his children, Jeffery Fontana, Mary K. (Aubrey) Dewert. Stepchildren, Larinda (Scott) Weightman, Laronda (Tim) Stape, Dennis (Amber) Dominick, and Deena (Karl) Bortz. Grandchildren, Jamie Hardy, Courtney and Abigail Dominick, and Kaitlyn and Brianna Bortz. He is also survived by his great granddaughter Katie Hardy who gave him the nickname Great Great. He leaves behind his niece Carol (Sal) Lantieri and his nephew John (Carolyn) Fontana.

Those who knew Harry will remember his wisdom, his love, his sense of humor, and the contentment he found in his well lived life. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, faith, joy, and devotion to his family and friends that will continue to be felt for years to come. Though he will be missed deeply, his memory will remain a blessing to all who were lucky enough to know him.

There will be a memorial service held at the Alpha Ministries Church at 243 Pleasant Valley Rd Jeannette PA on Wednesday July 15, 2026 from 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harry’s name may be made to the Humane Society of Westmoreland County Greensburg PA or you can make a donation to a charity of your choice.
