Helen Amanda Kathryn Fisfis (nee Conomos) died on July 29, 2024. She was 87.
Born at Latrobe Hospital on March 27, 1937, she was the daughter of the late John H. Conomos and Bessie Conomos (nee Stathopoulou). She spent her first three years in Blairsville, Pennsylvania and moved with her family to Glassport, Pennsylvania in 1940.
She graduated from Glassport High School in 1955 and attended Penn State University where she met her future husband, Dr. Nicholas H. Fisfis, who predeceased her in 2015.
She graduated from Penn State in 1959 with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and was a dietician for the Pittsburgh City Schools and then Presbyterian Hospital until her marriage in 1961.
Primarily a homemaker, she was an avid reader, cook, knitter and collector of antiques and minerals. She frequented the opera and enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends. She loved to travel and was particularly pleased to have visited Sparta, Greece, her parents’ homeland.
She also enjoyed taking classes in a diversity of subjects and skills. In addition, she was active with the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association and was an officer in the Auxiliary.
Along with her many friends and neighbors, she maintained and cherished many friendships from her life including friends from kindergarten, grade school, high school and college.
She is survived by her son Harry Fisfis (Janet), daughter Kristie Bier (Albert), Grandchildren Dr. Nicholas Prewett, Eleni Dire (Nicholas), Harry Fisfis III, Alexa Sala (Joseph), Great Grandchildren, Dexter Dire, Aurora Dire, and Aubrey Dire, sister Magdaline Vos Balsley, cousins Kathryn Athanasoulas, Ernie and Cynthia Ladas.
Family and Friends are viewing on Friday, August 2, 2024 from 4-8 P.M. with a Trisagion Service at 8:00 P.M. at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA, 15317. (724) 260-5546. Additional viewing will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 10 am until time of Funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Mt. Lebanon. Burial will be private at Grandview Cemetery.
