Ira J. Hockenberger, age 95 of Mt. Lebanon, formerly of Penn Hills, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 with his wife and family by his side. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on November 21, 1924 and is the son of the late John and Luella Hockenberger. Ira proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the China Burma India Theater as a member of the 127 Signal Radio Intelligence Company. He was a member of the American Legion Post 351 and the Franklin/St. John’s/Trinity Masonic Lodge No. 221. Ira was employed by Mellon Bank and enjoyed over thirty years of retirement.
Beloved husband of Lois; loving father of Marilyn (James) Kelly, Nancy (Leonard) Anderson and Loraine (Timothy) Benedik; grandfather of Kimberly (Joshua) Miner and Jillian (Duane) Galligher; great-grandfather of Stella and Lydia Miner. He was preceded in death by his eight siblings.
Arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317. Private burial will take place at Riverview Memorial Park, Penn Hills, PA.
