J. Robert (Bob) Beaver, age 97, died August 23 at home in Pittsburgh. Bob was born in Huntingdon County, the son of Benjamin and Sarah Beaver. On February 14,
1950, he married Maxine Marie Cutshall at St James Lutheran Church in Huntingdon. He is survived by daughter Vicki Binney (Jeffrey) of North Carolina, granddaughter Kristin Binney McCambridge (Matthew) and great-granddaughter Ella all of Massachusetts; son Michael (Roxanne) of Maryland, granddaughter Alicia (Patrick) Lombardo and great-grandson Finnegan of Virginia, and granddaughter Allison (Cody) Roemer and great-granddaughter Ava of Maryland; daughter Patricia (Charles) Henderson, granddaughter Karissa Fonzi, granddaughter Laura Fastuca (Matthew), and great-granddaughter Carmela and great-grandson Jovanni all of Pittsburgh. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife Maxine, his sister Nellie, and brothers Carl, Allen, and Joseph.
Bob resided in Huntingdon County until 2021. He graduated from Saxton Liberty High School in 1945, and was a veteran having volunteered that July to serve in the US Navy from 1945-47.
Bob spent most of his career as a butcher at the local A&P, having risen to become manager of the Meat Department; he was a fastidious hard worker, knew an incredible amount of animal anatomy relating to his craft, and always served his customers with a smile. His children have fond childhood memories of very merry Christmases, summer vacations to Ocean City MD, weekend picnics at Greenwood Furnace and lots of homemade ice cream!! After retirement he and Maxine were active at St James and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and as bell ringers for Salvation Army. Bob was a devoted sports fan of Huntingdon HS and Juniata College, Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football. In his later years he delighted in visits with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren…and loved holding those new babies.
A celebration of Bob’s and Maxine’s lives will be held Tuesday Sept. 3 at St James
Lutheran Church with a visitation at 11am, followed by a funeral at 12noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. James Lutheran Church, 525 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, PA 16652.
