To Uncle Jake, It's hard to put into words what you meant to me. You were more than just my uncle—you were a constant, quiet force in my life. The kind of person who didn’t need to speak loudly to be heard or make an impact. You let me tease you endlessly, always with that trademark smirk, like you were in on a secret the rest of us hadn't figured out yet. That sense of humor was just one of the ways we connected. What I didn’t always say—but always knew—is how deeply you shaped who I am. So many choices I’ve made over the years were subtly steered by your steady example. You led without fanfare, always through action. Whether it was fixing something with your hands or caring for your land and family, you taught me what it means to take pride in the simple, meaningful things. I see so much of myself in you—our shared love of science, of animals, of the natural world. I guess the genetics ran strong between us. And I’m grateful for that. It makes me feel like a part of you still lives on in the way I think, in the way I care, in the things I value. You were a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a skilled craftsman, and the guy who could fix anything—but to me, you'll always be the uncle who understood me, who let me be myself, and who left a bigger mark on my heart than you'll ever know. Rest easy, Uncle Jake. You earned it. I’ll carry your quiet strength with me, always. With love, April
