James G. Gleason

James Gerard Gleason, age 67, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully at home on January 22, 2026. Born February 5, 1958, James was the beloved son of the late Thomas J. and Mary Jane Gleason.

James had a deep passion for music and film, finding joy, meaning, and connection through both. These interests were not only personal pleasures but gifts he generously shared, especially with those closest to him. Above all, James cherished the life he built with his partner, sharing decades of love, laughter, and companionship.

He is survived by his devoted partner of 45 years, Richard Gregory Shurtz, whose love and care were central to James’s life, and by his dear sister, Eileen Gleason of New Orleans, Louisiana. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and cousins.

James was preceded in death by his siblings, William Bourke Gleason, Patrick J. Gleason, Kathleen Gleason MacKenzie, John Gleason, and Thomas Mullen Gleason.

James will be remembered for his sense of humor, fondness for musician Joni Mitchell, and his way with words. His presence will be profoundly missed and forever cherished.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank his medical providers, including Family Hospice. Arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, Robinson Township, PA.
