Jim passed away on December 13, 2020 at Country Meadows in Bridgeville, PA at the age of 74.  He was a long time resident of the South Hills. Jim is survived by his wife, Jo Ann, sons David and Jonathan, step-sons Chris and Jon Bennett, and 5 grandchildren.  Jim’s parents were Ethel LaBarbera, Harvey Perrine, and step-father Vincent LaBarbera.

Jim attended Duquesne University and went on to have a long career teaching instrumental music, most of it working with students grades 4 through high school in the Bethel Park School District.  He enjoyed sailing his boat “Empty Pockets” in Lake Arthur and in the Chesapeake Bay near Annapolis, MD, and spent a great deal of time after retiring from teaching pursuing his photography hobby.  Jim enjoyed working with the Bethel Park Lion’s Club alongside several close friends from his teaching days.  He will be missed by those who loved him.

Due to COVID-19 protocols, no service will be held at this time.

I am so sorry to learn of Mr. Perrine's passing. He was my clarinet teacher for many years back in the early 70s, even coming to my house for lessons. He was so passionate about music and teaching, and was great at both. The world is a lesser place without him.

A great teacher, a great supporter, a great mentor and a great friend to me. He was never in pursuit of lofty awards and public praise; he simply helped you be your best, whatever that meant for you. Instead of pep talks he gave practical advice on how to achieve your musical goals. I am forever grateful for his personal and professional impact on me. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
