James “Jim” T. Carr, age 82, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away on December 2, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Carr for 33 years. Born on January 28, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Marcella and Thomas Carr.

Jim was a loving father to Jimmy (Wendy) Carr, Jason (Ginny) Carr, Joliene (Matthew) Battistone, Jared (Michele) Carr, and Jonathan Carr. He was also a devoted stepfather to Matthew (Laura) Handwork and C. Ryan (Jennifer) Handwork. Jim was proud of his large and growing family, cherished as the grandfather of 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Growing up in the Hill District and Allentown, Jim’s childhood was filled with unforgettable memories—tales of swimming in water towers, neighborhood water battles, and even the time he drove his car backward from Elizabethtown to Allentown when it malfunctioned. A turning point came when, with a DA haircut and a blade hidden in his boot, he made a life-altering decision to join the Marine Corps. It was during his service that he developed a deep love for travel and an understanding of his own strengths and unique abilities.

Jim was a man of action, a true philanthropist, who rose to lead every organization he became involved with, including serving as president of multiple charitable groups. His wit, brilliance, kindness, and undeniable handsomeness left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed his path. Admired by all who knew him, Jim was a shining light, always offering warmth, humor, and support. Jim had it all: a full life, a beautiful family, and the respect of those who loved him. Jim is now at peace. He will be dearly missed.

One of the memories I have of Uncle Jim is when he took all of us kids in the purple bronco to south park to fly kites. To this day when I go to South Park Park that memory pops up in my head. See you in heaven some day....God Speed. Vincent
