James Wayne Buckels, 71, of Canonsburg, PA, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026.

Born on September 6, 1954, in Canonsburg, PA, Jim was the beloved son of the late Harold and Dorothy Buckels.

Jim was a talented, creative, and generous man who found joy in bringing people together. A devoted member of the Planka Club, he was well known for his love of cooking, (he was famous for his baked beans), often preparing meals and baking cakes to share with fellow members and friends. Whether in the kitchen or gathered around a table, Jim’s happiest moments were spent making memories with family and those he cared about.

A gifted woodworker, Jim enjoyed building custom cabinets and handcrafted guitars, combining his creativity with remarkable craftsmanship. He was also a talented painter. Music was another lifelong passion, and he especially loved heavy metal and seeing live bands perform. Among his favorites were local bands Mojo Filter and Skell. Jim also cherished time spent taking about music with his granddaughter Aubree.

Jim also cherished time outdoors. He looked forward each year to fishing and spending time on a pontoon boat with his family on Lake Erie. Above all, he treasured his family and took great pride in supporting his grandson, traveling to wrestling tournaments and cheering him on every chance he had. He was also very proud to be inducted into the Pennsylvania football hall of fame.

Jim is survived by his loving daughter Tess (Eugene) Crooks and his grandchildren Aubree Conzo and Geno Crooks. He is the cherished brother of the late Robert Buckels, Barbara (Kerry) Kotyk and Tom (Debbie) Buckles.

Jim will be remembered for his generous heart, creative spirit, and the countless memories he created through good food, great music, and time spent with the people he loved.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held on September 5, 2026 at 1:00 pm at the Planka Sportsman’s Club, 716 North Main St., Houston, PA 15342.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, McMurray, PA.
