Janice Jones

Janice Della Mea Jones passed away peacefully on the morning of September 13, 2024, after a brief illness. Born on March 28, 1957, in West Mifflin, PA, Janice was a good student who enjoyed school and spending time with her friends and her small yet close-knit Italian family. After graduating high school, Janice attended business school and pursued a career as a legal secretary, where she met some of her closest friends. After falling in love on a trip to Myrtle Beach, Janice married Gregory Jones on September 7, 1989. They bought a beautiful home in Jonesboro, Georgia, where they lived for 35 years. Janice took pride in her home, and never passed up an opportunity to look for a new antique or decoration.

After the birth of their children, Janice became a stay-at-home mom and later worked at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School as a teacher’s aide. The three most important things to her were family, food, and her Catholic faith. Janice was the best wife and mother anyone could ask for and poured every ounce of her love into her family. She was their biggest cheerleader and constant supporter. She loved to cook and spent many years researching and perfecting her recipes. Her family will forever cherish the memories of holidays that she made so very special. She enjoyed being involved in multiple parent organizations at her kids’ schools, reading housekeeping and culinary magazines, and tailgating on Saturdays at Georgia Tech, and actively rooting against all Philadelphia sports teams.

Janice never met a stranger, showed compassion and kindness to everyone, and had an infectious smile. The world has lost an amazing woman, but Heaven has gained an incredible angel. She is preceded in death by her father, David Della Mea and beloved family cat, Midnight. Left to carry on her memory are her mother, Isoline Della Mea; her husband, Greg; children, Christina (Scott) Gaffney and Kevin Jones; brother, Michael (Mary Jo) Della Mea and many other extended family and friends. She will be missed by many, but never forgotten.

A gathering will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 5405 Steubenville Pike, Robinson Township, PA 15136 from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 10:00 am at Archangel Gabriel Parish (Holy Trinity Church) 5718 Steubenville Pike, McKees Rocks, PA 15136.
