Jean (Yingling) Houlik, 61, of Oakdale, PA and formerly Johnstown and Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at home on Thursday, August 1st, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jean, also known as “Tootsie” by many, was born on February 22, 1963 to Erma (Grove) Yingling and the late Charles (Mick) Yingling in Johnstown, PA. After she graduated from Conemaugh Valley High School in 1981, Jean went on to study Nursing at St. Francis University.
After graduating, Jean spent the next 34 years as a nurse pridefully taking care of her patients with kindness, love, and dignity.

Jean is the beloved wife of James Houlik and Sister of Michael (Deborah) Yingling, Karen (Shane) Cruse, and William (Lynn) Yingling; also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was an exceptional mother and best friend to her two daughters Tara (James) Percinsky-Kiem and Katelyn (Justin) Massie and step-mother of Chaz Houlik and the late Zachary J. Houlik.  Out of all of the joys in Jean’s life, her role as a grandmother was her most treasured. “Yam”, as her grandchildren lovingly called her, loved Vaeda, Bowen, Blayke, Austen, and Wyatt beyond measure.

Jean’s light was felt by everyone she met. She was the perfect example of strength, kindness, fearlessness, love, and friendship. From marching in the band and cheerleading,  to being a member of the Tap Run Ski Club for 40 years, she valued her life long friends, and their families, as if they were her own. An avid lover of all things Pittsburgh, Jean could often be found cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates. Jean also had a passion for traveling, live music, exploring new places and casinos, and creating cherished memories along the way.  Her legacy of love, laughter, and joy will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 11:00am at The Bible Chapel 300 Gallery Drive McMurray, PA 15317. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 10:00am at The Forest Lawn Cemetery 1530 Frankstown Road Johnstown PA 15902. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to the Bible Chapel South Hills campus/Cancer Support or St Jude Hospital at stjude.org

Tara & Katie My heart is broken hearing that Toot has lost her brave battle. She was a dear and treasured friend. I admired her so much for how she overcame things in life that would have made others quit. Her exuberance for life and love of family made her the special and beautiful person she was. All of you are in my prayers, hold on to the wonderful memories you have shared. Love, Dawn

You did everything God wanted you to do while you were here with us, Tootsie. You loved, you sacrificed, you paid attention to people's needs and you always tried to be there for them in person or in coaching them with your wisdom and your love. Your family is a testimony to how much love you gave people. May you rest in peace in the loving arms of our Lord my cousin.

I had the pleasure and honor to work beside Jean in the Surgical ICU at Holy Spirit for years! She was the funniest and sweetest person, and an excellent nurse who cared for and advocated for her patients. When we talked she listened and cared like no one else was in the room. She had a natural way of making you feel special. She, her love and respect for others will never be forgotten. Rest easy my friend.
