Jesse C. Johnston, 65, of Peters Township, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2026, following a courageous eight-month battle with cancer.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1961, Jesse was the fourth of five sons of J. Bruce and Rose Marie Johnston.
He is survived by his three children, Ben (Katie), Zak (Tessa), and Rebecca Johnston; and his two grandchildren, Kynlie and Campbell Johnston. He is also survived by his four brothers, Bruce (Libby), Gordon (Holly), Chuck (the late Darcy), and Kirk (Laurie) Johnston, along with many cherished friends, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
After graduating from Peters Township High School in 1979, Jesse spent time traveling the world as a deckhand on an ocean freighter and later worked on the Great Lakes aboard an ore carrier. He went on to earn his degree in business from Robert Morris University in 1985. Jesse had the privilege of serving for years with the Peters Township volunteer fire department.
Jesse was widely known and well liked for his remarkable ability to fix or repair almost any mechanical device. He enjoyed working outdoors with his excavating equipment and took great pride in hands-on work. Above all, he loved making family and friends laugh with his humor, observations, and quick wit.
Friends will gather on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 4:00 pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 5:00 pm, at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317.
