Jo Ann Frohnapfel, 76, of Allison Park, PA, passed away peacefully at Allegheny General Hospital on September 22, 2024. A remarkable spirit, Jo Ann faced her 16-year battle with Stage 4 lung cancer with courage and a zest for life, viewing each challenge as a new ride in the amusement park of existence.
Born on May 18, 1948, in Martins Ferry, OH, she was the beloved daughter of the late John and Gazella (Czap) Burkle. Jo Ann was preceded in death by her cherished son, Bradley Frohnapfel, and her sister, Mary Maguire.
A proud graduate of Martins Ferry High School in 1965, Jo Ann continued her education at Ohio University Eastern and earned several advanced certificates in banking, culminating in a fulfilling career as a Branch Manager for Bank of America.
Jo Ann’s heart was as big as her sense of humor. She delighted in helping her daughter with projects, was a member of the Red Sparks, enjoyed going to the movies, and watching her favorite TV shows. An enthusiastic communicator, she kept her family and friends updated on everything from politics to the weather, sharing incredible stories of her life along the way.
She is survived by her daughter, Carrie Frohnapfel (Shawn Kunes); her brother, John Burkle (Pat) of Shadyside, OH; her sister, Cheryl Schellenberg (Jack) of Nokomis, FL; and many cherished family members. Jo Ann also leaves behind her precious grand dogs, Jack and Eddy.
In honoring Jo Ann’s wishes, there will be no services. Her family invites all who knew her to celebrate her life in their own special way, remembering the generous, kind, and feisty woman who touched their hearts. Jo Ann will be profoundly missed, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
