Joan M. Smith, age 73, of Bridgeville, PA, passed away on November 16, 2025.

Born on May 4, 1952, in Pittsburgh, PA, Joan was the beloved daughter of the late MaryJane and Joseph Pavilonis. She was the devoted wife of 27 years to James “Jim” Smith, with whom she shared a life filled with love, laughter, and companionship.

Joan was a cherished sister to Joseph (Carol) Pavilonis and a loving aunt to her nephew, Josh Pavilonis. Her family, both immediate and extended, meant the world to her.

A woman of many joys, Joan had a deep love for dogs and found great comfort and happiness in the animals that filled her life. She was an avid reader, a passionate gardener who nurtured beauty wherever she went, and a talented cook who brought people together around her table.

Joan will be remembered for her kindness, her warm spirit, and the way she made every person, and every dog, feel special. Her memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her.

Joanie was my cousin who was more like a sister to me. We would call each other "Sis". Joan was such a sweet person with a radiant personality. She had such a beautiful smile. I will miss her daily emails letting me know what was going on in her life. Jim, Joan, Ron "my husband" and I would meet for lunch at Olive Garden. I will especially miss the laughter and love we shared. Jim, Ron and I will keep you in our prayers. Our deepest sympathy in your loss and "ours".

My wife, Kat, and I met Joan in collage at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and she and Kat quickly became best friends and stayed in touch for 50 plus years. We will miss- but remember- her laugh and the wonderful person that she was. Namasta.

Joanie was my best friend all the way from Elementary school through high school. We lost touch during college and years later. But we regained our close relationship after my husband, Paul, and I moved back to Pittsburgh. We emailed many times a week and had frequent phone calls. Paul and I loved spending time with Jim and Joanie. We all talked and laughed. Joanie really loved gardening and loved talking about it. Our condolences to Jim and family. Joanie, you will be in my thoughts forever. Marilyn White (Pascoe - maiden)
