John C. Niederberger

John (Jack) Cyril Niederberger, age 76, of Dormont, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026. Born on August 19, 1949, he was the beloved son of the late Cyril John and Mary (Jean) Regina Niederberger.

Jack was a proud graduate of Duquesne University, Class of 1972, where he was a member of the Rogues Club and pitched for the university baseball team. He later earned his Master’s degree from Robert Morris University, continuing a lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Jack’s love for athletics extended far beyond the field. Coaching was one of the great joys of his life, and he dedicated countless years to mentoring young athletes, coaching his daughters’ softball teams and his son’s basketball teams. He believed in teamwork, encouragement, and leading by example, lessons that stayed with those he coached long after the games were over.

Jack also loved traveling and treasured family vacations to the Outer Banks, and later to Presque Isle with his beloved wife, where many cherished memories were made. A gifted writer, he had a talent for putting thoughts into words whenever the occasion called for it.

Above all, Jack was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose greatest happiness came from spending time with his family. He especially loved being with his grandchildren and cheering them on at their sporting events.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 51 years, Jean; his loving children, Carrie (Mark) Shick, Jon Mathew (Stasi) Niederberger, and Leslie (Ben) Moose; and his cherished grandchildren, Colton, Camille, and Everly Shick, and Brody and Jace Niederberger. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Joyce Niederberger, Margaret (James) Salas, and Thomas (Marilyn) Niederberger. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeannie (Shaun) Daley. Jack’s love for family extended far beyond his immediate support, and he will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were made better by knowing him.

Jack will be remembered for his kindness, his wisdom, his unwavering devotion to family, and the positive impact he had on so many throughout his life.

Friends will gather on Friday, June 5, 2026 from 4:00 pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 6:00 p.m., at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the HOA Endowment for Cancer Research at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. Please make checks payable to UPMC.
