John Edward Pettus, 71 of the Chartier’s City area of Pittsburgh, went to be with the Lord, on Monday, March 6, 2023. He was born April 27, 1951, son of the late Allen and Mary Belle (Lewis) Pettus. Loving father of three sons, Branden Deshawn, John Allen Andrew and Joseph Demond Edward Pettus, and a stepfather of three, all of Pittsburgh. Brother of the late James Allen Pettus and Beverly Louise (Robert) McGhee; survived by four siblings, Charles Lee, Sr. (Ruby) of Baltimore, MD, William Earl, Donald Ellis and Janet Marie Pettus of Pittsburgh. Grandfather of the late Sa’Vaughn DeShawn; survived by Christian, Joseph, Jr., Jace, Serenity, Kehlani and Myla Elaine Pettus, all of Pittsburgh. A new grandson will arrive in August of 2023. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and relatives.

John was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed beautifying lawns and tree removal. His passion was art. His career allowed him to serve as an elementary school art teacher at Manchester Academic Charter School for many years until his retirement. John, affectionately known as “Johnnycake”, loved to freelance with his talents often with freehand stenciling and home improvement projects. Anyone who met “Johnnycake” instantly met a friend. He will be deeply missed by all.

Friends are welcome on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 5405 Steubenville Pike, Robinson Township, PA 15136, (412) 787-1800.
