John Henderson passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024. Born on June 1, 1945, to the late Inez and Edwin Henderson, John was a man of quiet strength and gentle wisdom who touched the lives of many throughout his 79 years.

John was the loving and devoted husband of Arlene Henderson, with whom he shared an adventurous life. Their various journeys took them to all the national parks out west, off-roading in Alaska, and hiking down the Grand Canyon. Their marriage was a partnership filled with love and laughter.

John was the cherished father of Jill (Ray) Sifinski and Kelly (Bobby) Bernhart. He was a proud grandfather to Rachel (Jesse) Rodgers, Brianna Spalaris, Emily Spalaris, Allison Spalaris, R.J. Sifinski, and Jake Sifinski, and a caring great-grandfather to little Lili Rodgers. His family will forever treasure the love he showed them all.

John was also a devoted brother to Eric Henderson, with whom he shared a passion for woodworking. Together, they created countless projects that will remain family treasures.

John’s career as a librarian saw him work in various institutions, including Castle Shannon Library, Allegheny General Hospital Library, Neville Chemical, W&J College, Bethel Park Library, and Peters Library. His dedication to his work left a mark on the communities he served.

Affectionately known as “St. John” by his close friends, John was a quiet, patient soul who met the love of his life, Arlene, at Peters Library with little help from Mrs. Lee. His friendship circles were wide, and he loved his golf trips to Myrtle Beach with the guys.

A devoted dog dad to his boy Boomer, John’s life was rich with love and laughter, especially since he had inherited his big family. He was a man of great kindness and integrity whose legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

John Henderson will be deeply missed by all who loved him, but the memories he leaves behind will continue to uplift those whose lives he touched. His life was well-lived, full of adventure, and a quiet grace.

A Gathering of family and friends will take place at a later date at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, McMurray, PA.

John was one of the gentlest of gentlemen that I have ever known. He was a quiet soul with the composure and reticence just right for a long career as a librarian. As youth, we cousins often gathered together at the home of our grandparents. When he and Arlene got married, the wedding was a genuinely delightful and joyous occasion. John will be dearly missed. May he rest in the love and peace of our Heavenly Father.
