John Joseph Rocco Chiotti, 86, of Hopewell, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on September 9, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital.

John was born on January 10, 1938 in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Aliquippa High School in 1957, and served in the US Army from 1961-1966. He was a proud member of the Steamfitters Local 449 for 60 years.

John loved the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also loved nature, sailing, and Indianapolis race cars. An avid reader and lifelong learner,  his interests ranged from Carl Jung to Joseph Campbell to Agatha Christie. The most recent book he loved was The Light Eaters by Zoë Schlanger. He enjoyed long drives and even longer conversations. He was an exuberant storyteller, and a seeker of joy and fun in every circumstance. He found happiness and contentment sitting on his front porch, looking at the trees, and designing elaborate ways to protect his bird feeders from squirrels. His absence will be deeply felt by his family and community.

He is survived by Rose Chiotti, his loving wife of 48 years. He is also survived by his daughter, Danielle Chiotti (Ron Lee) of Pittsburgh, his child Andrea Chiotti (Lale Santelices Lorca) of Portland, his grandchildren Basil Lee and Harry Lee, his nephew David Chiotti (Julie) of Chippewa and numerous friends, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel and Suzy Chiotti, his brother Gabriel Chiotti and his sister, Nancy Petrella.

A celebration of life for John will be held on Sunday, September 15th, from 12:00 to 3:00 pm at the Sons of Italy Club, 1115 Pacific Ave., Monaca, PA 15061. There is on street parking and parking in a gravel lot nearby. Guests should not park in the parking lot for “the band room“ as they may get towed. The event space is on the second floor and has a chairlift for those who are unable to climb stairs.

Arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, Robinson Township, PA.
