John Richard Gallagher, Jr., 64 of Carnegie, formerly of Bryans Road, Maryland and Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on September 17, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Richard Sr. and Mary Gallagher of Bryans Road, and his sister Deborah Begley of Hollidaysburg. He is survived by his wife, Andrea, and two sons: Jake (fiance Chelsea Christy) and Sam, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.
John attended Bishop McNamara High School, and earned degrees from College of Southern Maryland, University of Maryland at College Park, and Webster University. While his education in computer science and information systems management furthered his career, his participation in Theater at CCCC was the foundation for countless lifelong friendships.
John made significant contributions to all of the communities he was involved in. Professionally, his career spanned 45 years and multiple industries, with Arlington County Emergency Communications Center, Booz Allen Hamilton, BAE Systems Inc., and most recently, PNC Bank. In each of these businesses, John served customers, clients, and co-workers with respect, integrity, and humor.
John’s volunteer service included Knights of Columbus and two decades in the Bryans Road (MD) Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Charles County Mobile Intensive Care Unit, and the Charles County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association. John demonstrated a sincere commitment to the growth of these organizations, holding a variety of leadership positions.
An avid sports fan, John was excited to live in Pittsburgh and happy to wear the black and yellow. He was even more proud to wear the colors of whatever sports teams his sons were playing for. A seasoned 2-time ice hockey goalie dad, John had in recent years added youth football and baseball to his equipment management responsibilities.
John and Andrea celebrated 32 years of marriage in August.
Private arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, Robinson Township, PA, and a formal celebration of John’s life will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be offered at https://gofund.me/47cd7940.
