JOHN BRADY, 69

John Terrence “Terry” Brady, age 69 of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at his home on May 27, 2017. He was born on August 26, 1947 to the late John Brady and Elizabeth Rauenswinter Brady on August 26, 1947.

Terry attended both elementary and high school at St. Mary of the Mount in Mt. Washington. Upon graduating high school in 1965, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country until 1969, when he was honorably discharged. Upon his return to Pittsburgh, Terry received his Associates Degree from Dean Technical and began working for General Electric in what would become the start of a successful life-long career in the electrical industry. He spent many years working in sales at McCullough Electric and reached the pinnacle of his career with the Hite Company where he served as Regional Sales and Operations Manager. Terry was very well-respected and admired by his colleagues and customers alike. Among his many admirable qualities, he will always be fondly remembered by those who knew him for his fairness, honesty, dependability, authenticity, mentorship skills, humor, and generosity.

Family and friends were Terry’s passion and joy. He began dating his beautiful wife, Sandra “Sandy”, when he was 15 years old during his sophomore year in high school. The high school sweethearts were married at St. Mary of the Mount Church and celebrated the reception at the Berkley Hills VFD on April 17, 1971, and they recently celebrated 46 wonderful years of marriage. Terry was the most amazing father, grandfather, and mentor to his children and grandchildren. In recent years, his favorite past time was taking his grandson, Jack, to the park and spoiling him at the Grandview Bakery. He spent many treasured hours rocking little Finn, his youngest grandson, in his favorite rocking chair. Jack and Finn loved their Pappy enormously and the bond between grandsons and Pappy will certainly transcend time.

Terry was an active member in the community and served as a Eucharistic minister for many years for St. Mary of the Mount Parish. He was a beloved coach for WHAA softball and baseball teams and Saint Mary of the Mount boys’ basketball. During his tenure as head coach, he turned the girls green team seemingly endless string of losing seasons into the winningest team of the 1980s. He spent over 30 years as a referee for soccer and basketball and more than one athlete mentioned that they learned more from him than they did their own coaches. He always took the time to share his wisdom, and he genuinely cared about the athletes he coached and refereed. He will be dearly missed by all those who had the pleasure of meeting him and the privilege of knowing him.

Terry is survived by his beloved wife Sandy, his two adoring children, Heather (Glenn) Brady and Terrence “T.J.” Brady, his spirited and cherished grandchildren, Jack and Finn. He also leaves behind his youngest brother, Daniel “Danny” and his dear family, Maureen, Daniel, Shannon, and Patrick, sister-in-law Jeannine and her daughters, sisters-in-laws and brother-in laws, Patricia, Darlyn and Don, Lynn and Jim, Robert and Beverly, and their many adoring children.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents John and Elizabeth (Rauenswinter) Brady and his two brothers Gerard and Michael.

The family wishes to thank all of those who loved and cared for Terry over the last two years, especially Wendy, Diana, Matt and Miranda from Vitas Hospice, and Dr. Carol Scicutella and staff, especially Nurse Tracie, Lisa, Tracey, Kelli, and Willie; also Dr. Jan Drappatz, Ashley, and Kayla at Hillman Cancer Center and Dr. John C. Flickenger and staff at UPMC Cancer Center. A mass to celebrate Terry’s life will be held Wednesday May 31, 2017 at 12:30 pm at St. Mary of the Mount Church in Mt. Washington. Fr. Michael Stumpf of St. Mary of the Mount Church will be officiating. A brief ceremony will follow the funeral service at the Cemetery of the Alleghenies at 2:30 pm.
