JOSEPH GENE LO CASTRO – “JOEY”

Age 41, born on January 6, 1981, Joey was embraced by Jesus Christ as he entered the gates of Heaven suddenly on Friday, December 16, 2022.  Joey leaves behind his father Frank Lo Castro (Tracey), mother Mary Lou Tolmer (Timothy), brother Frank Lo Castro Jr. (Lisa), sister Dr. Jenna Lo Castro Petersheim (Joel) dear nephews Lucas and Primo, former step-mother Barbara Lo Castro and step brothers Justin and Andrew Marshall along with former spouse Jenny Hise Lo Castro.  He was preceded to his Savior’s calling by  grandparents Joseph and Frances Lo Castro and Gene and Cleo Saldutti.  Other cherished family includes his favorite aunt and cousin; Susan Smoker and JT Lo Castro respectively, aunts and uncles Dino Lo Castro, Dr. Robert Lo Castro (Janet), Bill & Jackie Hartman, David & Kathy Saldutti, Paul & Brenda Saldutti along with a myriad of cousins.

As a young man, Joey Gene was an exceptional Football and Lacrosse athlete and student.  He was voted Captain and Football MVP for the St. Louise De Marillac Trojans prior to graduation.  As a high school Freshman, he organized and captained the first Peters Twp. HS Boys Lacrosse program commencing in 1995 where he excelled as an all WPSLA Conference Midfielder while becoming a 4 year letterman.  In addition to Lacrosse, Joey was a 4 year middle linebacker for the PT Football teams where he earned 3 Varsity letters.  As a most accomplished student, Joey received a BS degree from Washington & Jefferson College in 2003 prior to earning a MBA in 2005.  By 2010, he had accomplished a most successful career as an entrepreneur with Subway Restaurant & Foods, soleowner of 3 franchise locations in the Pittsburgh area.  For recreation, Joey would spend countless hours in body building, watching MMA and WWE matches along with attending WrestleMania and Smack Down events throughout the USA.  Above all else, his passion involved “rough-housing” with his adored dogs Maf, Oz, Rambo and Samantha.  Joey’s resolve, infectious smile and laughter will never be forgotten by his family, friends and employees.  His spirit will live on and always be perfectly loved.


Family will greet friends and relatives on Thursday, December 22 from 12-3pm and 6-
8pm at the Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care located at 3287 Washington Road, McMurray.  Funeral prayer on Friday, December 23 at 900am with Mass of Christian Burial at 1030am in St. Louise DeMarillac Church, McMurray.  Final resting Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.  If desired in lieu of flowers, family requests contributions to South Hills Pet Rescue at southhillspetrescue.org
