Joseph M. Thomas, 67, formerly of Carrick and Greentree passed away on October 25, 2020. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 23, 1953 and was preceded in death by his parents, James and Congetta Thomas; siblings Lawrence Thomas, Marie Aliyetti, Barbara Jean Rode and Theresa Reasey.

Joseph is survived by his wife of 39 years, Donna (Sherron); children, Diana (Edward) Wodarczyk, Joseph, and James; and newly arrived granddaughter, Reagan Elizabeth. He was a loving brother to his sisters, Patricia Maykranz and Donna J Cefalo Thomas; nieces and nephews, Karen McKay, James Sberna, Faith Mahan, Frank Baric, Charles Rode, George Maykranz, Kimberly Reasey, Joseph Reasey, Connie Nigro, Michael Nigro; and great nieces and nephews Belladonna, Venezia, and D’Angelo.

Joseph had a long and fulfilling career with PENNDOT until his early retirement, due to illness, in 2010. Joseph received the gift of life with a liver transplant in 2011, which allowed him to proudly witness his children’s college graduations, walk his daughter down the aisle, and become a Papa to his first grandchild Reagan Elizabeth. In his retired years, he loved going out to breakfast with friends and family, traveling with his wife, and betting the ponies with his buddies. He was a friend to all that he met and his generosity and kindness will live on in the memories of all that knew him.

Family and friends will be received from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, and Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 5405 Steubenville Pike, Robinson Township, PA 15136. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 30th at 10:30 am in St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 310 Mansfield Ave., Greentree, PA 15220. Entombment will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute, Montefiore Hospital, 7 South, Development Center, 3459 5th Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15213.  (http://www.stiresearch.health.pitt.edu/node/331).

So many wonderful memories, from 6am hockey practices to cruising to Egypt and everything in between, my buddy will be missed. Our families traveled together, ate together, always there for each other and most importantly laughed and truly enjoyed each other’s company! I will never forget Joe’s kindness, his love for his family and his friends, and great sense of humor! Missing him already! Love 💕 Linda or as Joe called me....“Trixie”

Dearest Donna and Family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. Such heartbreaking news. Sending prayers for strength, healing and peace to all of you. Joe was truly a one in a million guy. Although it seems a lifetime ago, I remember vividly how much he loved you, and his distinctive smile. I have very fond memories of you both. Joe was so wise and sensible, and at the same time funny and happy, and made everyone around him laugh. His facial expressions often replaced words. Even as a young man, those of us who had the pleasure of knowing him greatly respected him and would seek out his advice. I know those great qualities will live on in your children and grandchildren. We are fortunate and honored to have known such a special gentleman. Wishing you comfort and blessings, with treasured memories. Much love and big hugs! Susie
