Judith Ann Hoffman ( Burke), 76, of Dormont and Upper St. Clair, passed away on May 28, 2026, surrounded by her family after several years of courageously facing a number of health challenges.

Born on March 4, 1950, in Pittsburgh, Judy was the daughter of James and Lillian Burke. She grew up in Dormont and often spoke about playing baseball and basketball in the neighborhood alleys. Those who knew her will remember her strength, loyalty, and the deep care she showed to the people she loved.

Judy met the love of her life, Douglas Hoffman, during their freshman year at Keystone Oaks High School in 1964. She liked to tell the story of how Doug sat beside her reading paperback books. One day he finished one book, went to his locker, returned with another, and kept reading. Judy remembered thinking, “Maybe now he’ll finally talk to me.” Eventually he did.

Their high school friendship grew into a love story that lasted over 60 years. Doug proposed after a Carpenters concert at the Syria Mosque in February 1971, and they were married on July 8, 1972. Together they built a life centered on family, friendship, faith, and adventure.

They raised four children, Erin McLaughlin, Craig Hoffman, Todd Hoffman, and Cara Daniele, in Pittsburgh’s South Hills. Judy devoted herself to her family and spent countless hours supporting her children’s activities. She volunteered as a room parent, helped with Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, attended sporting events and concerts, and was always there when she was needed. Her children never doubted they had someone cheering them on.

Judy graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1972 with a BA in Science and Education.  She taught health and physical education at Bishop Canevin. After the kids were born she devoted herself to raising four children and running the home.  As the kids got older, Judy co-owned and ran a bookstore selling books to CCAC and students at several area nursing schools.  She also worked at a pharmacy fulfilling prescription orders.  Finally, she worked at Walmart and eventually retired to enjoy travel and more time with family.

She loved connecting with others. Judy enjoyed spending time with friends and was active in the South Hills Women’s Club, where she enjoyed bowling, cards, meetings, and special events. She played volleyball, participated in church activities and supper clubs, and was often the person bringing people together. She enjoyed decorating, cooking, and baking for holidays, parties, and family gatherings. Making others feel welcome brought her great joy.

Travel was one of Judy and Doug’s shared passions. Together they visited all fifty states and traveled to destinations throughout the Caribbean, Europe, and beyond. Family vacations created some of their happiest memories, especially summers spent in North Myrtle Beach. Judy’s favorite trip was anywhere with Doug.

Even as health challenges became more difficult in recent years, Judy continued to show the determination and resilience that had defined her throughout her life.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lillian Burke, and her brother, Jeff Burke.

Judy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Douglas Hoffman; her children, Erin McLaughlin, Craig Hoffman (Jen Walsh), Todd Hoffman (Emilie Delestienne), and Cara Daniele (Steve Daniele); and her ten grandchildren, Hayley McLaughlin, Colton McLaughlin, Nolan Daniele, Adriana Daniele, Lucas Daniele, Crosby Daniele, Oliver Hoffman, Sophia Hoffman, Brooke Hoffman, and Gwendalyn Hoffman.

More than anything, Judy will be remembered for the love she shared with her husband, children, grandchildren, friends, and community. She created a home where people felt welcome, supported, and cared for. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and in the many lives she touched along the way.

Join us for a Celebration of Life honoring Judith Ann Hoffman (Burke) on Monday, June 8 at 1:00 PM at Christ Church, 44 Highland Rd, Bethel Park, PA 15102. Friends and family are invited to share a meal together and tell stories in Community Square at Christ Church following the service. All are welcome.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Christ Church, Bethel Park, PA.
