Judith Ann Paul peacefully passed away on March 1, 2025, at the age of eighty-five with her immediate family by her side. She was deeply loved and will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering strength.
Judy is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Don Paul; her beloved sibling, Sr. Lynn Rettinger; sister-in-law Peggy Rettinger, children David and (Lynne) Paul, Becky and (John) Blust, Jennifer Paul, Karen and (Nick) Seubert, eight grandchildren Adam Paul, Natalie and Michael (Jocz), Megan and (Brad) Koenig, Amanda Blust, Lauren Seubert, Grace Blust, Heather Seubert, Jason Seubert, and one great grandchild Tieghan Mae Jocz. Born and raised in Brookline, PA, Judy graduated from Resurrection Grade School and Elizabeth Seton High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing. Judy started her career in the emergency room and other departments at South Side hospital. She continued her career even while raising her family, working for the practice of Dr. Ralph Stalter, St. Clair Hospital, J&L Steel, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Pittsburgh. Later in life, Judy obtained a Master’s in Education at California State University of Pennsylvania and spent the final years of her career as a nurse for the Chartiers Valley School District.
Judy’s care for people and especially children extended far beyond her professional life and immediate family. Judy and Don opened their hearts and home to many offering love and stability to boys from the Toner Institute, an orphanage for boys run by the Capuchin Franciscan Friars. They also welcomed David Fec into their home for seven years when the DePaul School for Hearing and Speech Founded by the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill closed their dormitories. David Fec and his family remain close friends with the Paul family to this day.
Judy was an exceptional advocate for people in need. She had a unique talent for applying kindness, empathy, and tough love at the right moment. This along with her strength of character, initiative, and attitude allowed Judy to be an exceptional role model for her children and grandchildren leaving an enduring legacy of compassion and resilience.
Judy and Don loved to travel and took advantage of this during their retirement. They took many trips throughout Europe and other parts of the globe with friends and tour groups. They especially enjoyed taking their grandchildren on special vacations, providing lasting memories for them and their grandchildren.
A funeral mass at St. John Capistran will be scheduled on March 8th at 10:00AM. If desired, the family suggests contributions to the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in memory of Judith Ann Paul.
